Mr. Schutz was the music Teacher at Knysna Primary School when it was decided that a school song should be composed and he composed the charming tune for which Mrs. S. van Niekerk wrote the Afrikaans words. The song was not sung for many years, but it was decided that an English version was needed. Local author and poet Hjalmar Thesen was approached and he composed a free but faithful translation for the school.
